The 1957 Porsche 550A Spyder, chassis 550A-0121, is one of only 40 cars produced by Porsche specifically for racing. This car was the only 550A delivered to Denmark where it was raced in period before competing in Kenya in the 1960s. Remarkably for a racing car extensively raced in period, this Porsche 550A retained its original engine and gearbox.
Porsche 550A Spyders at Auction
With only around 130 Porsche 550 Spyders produced in all versions, these cars that were often raced hard in period are rare and seldom come to auction. Only one 550A was sold at auction in recent years – this Works 1958 Porsche 550A Spyder set a model record when it achieved $5,170,000 at the Bonhams Scottsdale 2018 auction. That car was an official Porsche Works entry that finished the 1958 Le Mans 24 Hours race second in class and fifth overall.
