The mileage for car journey for away matched in the 2018-19 Premier League football season ranges from 9,184 miles for Newcastle United supporters to 4,430 miles for Watford fans.
New research by specialist car insurer ClassicLine Insurance reveals which Premier League fans face the longest, and shortest, away match car journeys for the 2018-19 season.
The fans who face by far the longest journey are Newcastle United supporters with a mammoth 9,184 miles when driving from their home city to the away club’s city and back – which is further than a one-way trip to Perth in Australia!
Supporters of London Clubs Generally Face the Shortest Journeys
However, Watford supporters face fewer motorway service stops than any other Premier League fans with a mere 4,430 miles on the road – less than half that of Newcastle fans.
In general, it is followers of teams in and around London that face the less mileage with seven top flight clubs in close proximity. Ironically, these supporters are also the least likely to actually drive to matches.
Ian Fray, managing director at ClassicLine Insurance, said: “Spare a thought for Newcastle United fans who face more than 9,000 miles in 2018-19 season to see their team play in all their away league matches. Hats off to those supporters who go to all their away matches!”
Other fans who face the highest mileage for their car journeys when driving to the away city and back include south coast teams AFC Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion, while from Wales supporters of Cardiff face 6,858 miles and Burnley fans face 6,564 miles.
